New season, same old concerns

Well, it all began on a brilliant note when Lacazette took barely 94 seconds to head in an Elneny’s pass and announce his arrival in the Premier league. A fabulous header off a lovely pass.
And then, within three minutes, in a seen it all before way, it began to fall apart. All the expectations from a fresh new season, with a bolstered squad were ruffled and it seemed that the coming season would be a continuation of the last season’s travails.
Our defence was stretched and the makeshift center back formation looked too vulnerable against the likes of Vardy and Mahrez. We frequently ended up being too open for the opponents to counter attack. Leicester scored two goals from set pieces and at this level, one would expect the Manager and the coaching team to drill the man marking basics into this team. Hopefully, the return of our Centre backs will address some of our defensive concerns. Also, an addition in the form of a center midfielder is imperative.
GK continues to lose possession and one which resulted in a goal. To be fair to him, he did play a key role later on in assisting the late goals. OC was frivolous in parts and MO probably requires more match time to fully recover. Welbeck seemed out of sorts for a better part of first half and suddenly got going with the equalizer close to end of first half. At the end, OG showed his big heart for us to record a victory in our first game. It was a roller coaster of a match and one that we just about managed to see through.
Our attacking options are a big positive at the moment and with Alexis back soon, I believe, we have one of the best attacks in the league. The defence, though, requires some quick strengthening if we are to mount a serious title challenge.
There’s still about 20 days remaining, so, let’s see what the boss has in mind. For now, let’s take the momentum to Britannia Stadium next week!
